Still: Leon Robinson & Josephine Melville
I didn't know I was an archivist, until I realized that over the years my husband and I had amassed a variety of memorabilia about past productions that mapped the existence of Black theatre productions. From fifty years the collection has grown to encompass 100 years of work that includes black practitioners in British history.
I am passionate about celebrating this history and sharing it. However to ensure my vision is realized a lot of work is required. This has been a natural progression and to accumulate was relatively easy but to contextulise the collection was a challenge.
Being an archivist has allowed me to celebrate our diversity within the arts and show the next generation of practitioners that this is a glimpse of what our history is, so they can be more educated about their career choices within the business'. Josephine Melville''
"...I feel this is vital for the future that we can offer the whole community access to the diverse collections in the UK and that the commentaries reflect the social make up of all members of society in order to make them all feel valued and want to share and engage with the arts and heritage experience.'' Leon Robinson.
