"I began my career in the theatre after my father found a play I had written and sent it off to the Royal Court. They wrote me a letter saying 'come in and see us'. I didn't - I was too shy - but my dad found it and said you should go in. So I went in, and they gave me a job. I was 18. I read scripts, I ushered and on my very first day, I saw Beckett rehearsing. It taught me a lot, being there so young, being with such intelligent people. I have no education at all. If I've learnt anything, it's through other people."
